The SHB20116 Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics is a nationally recognised qualification.

The course is offered on campus in the heart of Perth’s CBD for 1 day OR 2 evenings a week for 12 weeks. You will be taught by fully qualified and trained retail make-up artist trainers who have more than 20 years combined experience in this area.

In preparation for industry, your learning will be primarily comprised of practical, hands-on work in the classroom. You will also undertake some practical theory assignments online, and receive training and assessor support throughout your studies.

The minimum duration of this course is 12 weeks. Good things happen in 12 week periods – and at the end of this course, you could be a government accredited, nationally recognised makeup artist. Ready to pounce into the world, book clients, and unleash your makeup magic.

TrainSmart Australia will assess a student’s ‘academic suitability’ to ensure the student has the best chance of success. This is determined by either:

  • A face-to-face evaluation session with one of our friendly career advisors on our Perth campus (this is a must!);
  • During this session, TSA’s career advisors reference the career counselling and/or Capacity of Benefit notes to summarise their thoughts on whether to proceed with enrolment or not, based on the interview/conversation. This is then retained in the learner record file;
  • In addition, TSA must reasonably believe the learner is academically suited to undertake the course e.g. employment history and/or prior education/qualifications.

When you graduate this course, you’ll be able to work for any business that sells beauty or cosmetic products and services – or you might choose to blaze your own trail and work as a freelancer. Some of the job areas you might wish to explore may include:

  • Beauty salons
  • Hairdressing salons
  • Freelance (e.g. makeup artist)
  • Retail outlets (e.g. Mecca)
  • Department stores
  • And more!
