A look back at creative make-up in 2018

Having been involved in a wide range of highly acclaimed productions, 2018 has been a busy, but abundantly exciting and fulfilling year for TrainSmart Australia’s TSA College of Creative Arts – and especially its students. The most recent of which was Jesus Christ Superstar.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock masterpiece written and produced by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It’s a global sensation that exploded into theatres in 1971, and thereafter changed the face of musical theatre forever.

Perth Hair and Make-up Artist Awards
The Perth Hair and Make-up Artist Awards is a ground breaking event that highlights annually, the amazing talent of Perth’s Hair Stylists, Makeup Artists and Body Painters. Visually stunning events like this are commonplace in fashion meccas like Milan, Paris and London. The PHMUA Awards, however, is the only one of its kind in Western Australia. In its third year, the 2018 event has continued to become greater each year with more categories and entrants.
‘We Will Rock You’ at His Majesty’s Theatre
TSA Screen and Media creative make-up students, again in the spotlight!
Anyone who may have recently attended the theatrical performance of ‘We Will Rock You’ at His Majesty’s Theatre would have seen live on stage, the wonderful special effects make-up created by our talented Screen and Media students. They were very much part of the creative make-up team in Ben Elton’s multi award winning musical production ‘We Will Rock You’, featuring the music of Queen.

Following on from their participation with the world-renowned ‘We Will Rock You’ show at his Majesty’s Theatre, our TSA College of Creative Arts, students were again given more invaluable professional experience. This time, it was with the UWA Pantomime Society in their latest panto production of ‘Batman & Robin Hood’…
The creative world of sculpting
In May 2018 we run a short course with David Willis from Augmented Creative. The course was designed for artists who have always wished to start sculpting and those that are already sculpting, looking to expand their technique and awareness of sculpting within the monster making world.
David is an international lecturer conducting master classes and workshops in Australia, USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia, New Zealand, Sweden, France and Germany. Specializing in HD makeup, Airbrush makeup and makeup FX.
His credits include the Matrix trilogy, Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Superman Returns and House of Wax. His work has also appeared on runways from Los Angeles to New York to Sydney and in Harper’s Bazaar, Clear and Oyster magazines. He is also the Head of Makeup and Wigs at Universal Studios Singapore.
From Mamma Mia, to Grecian Goddesses – a magical transformation!
TSA College of Creative Arts were also lucky with the work experience and a massive opportunity to work with the cast of a Broadway musical Mamma Mia.
