planning online study

It can be easy to get yourself caught in a rut when you’re juggling things like work, family and a social life with online studies. Here’s 5 tips for how to get motivated to study online:

  1. Plan and prioritise

One of the greatest pitfalls when it comes to motivation for online students is that they don’t take the time to plan and prioritise their studies around their work and personal commitments. This means that online studies quickly take a backseat to everything else and students fall behind in their studies, making it harder and harder to muster up the motivation to catch up on all of that lost study time.

But if you take some time out at the start of each week to carefully plan out how many hours you can realistically dedicate to your studies each day, you’ll be making sure your studies don’t get lost in your list of other priorities, and that you stay on-track with your studies.

It’s much easier to stay motivated when you break your studies down into manageable chunks, than if you try to tackle a mammoth of studies that’s piled on because of consistently lost study time.

  1. Learn how to say “no”

This goes hand-in-hand with prioritising your studies. As the saying goes, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too” – and you can’t get qualified for your dream job if you don’t put in the time and effort that’s needed to successfully complete your studies.

That means learning to say “no” – “no” to that social event, romantic date, impulsive shopping trip, whatever it is that’s tempting you away from the time you’ve dedicated to your studies.

Remember – you need to prioritise your online course along with your other commitments, so don’t let your studies fall by the wayside. That tempting alternative can wait.

  1. Remember your end goal

Whenever you feel yourself getting stuck in a rut and losing motivation for your online studies, a great way to get your mind and motivation back on-track is to think about why you chose to study your online course in the first place.

Whether it was to nab your dream job, score a promotion and a higher salary, or for your own personal development, it’s important to keep in mind that the time and effort you put into your studies now will ultimately get you to your end goal. And, in the end, that will make it all worth it.
