Dr Vidhu Sharma
I teach body treatments on the Diploma of Beauty course. As a child, I only ever had one ambition, which was to become a doctor. I grew up in India and sat my medical entrance exams, and then qualified as a Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicines and Surgery.
Ayurveda therapy is a type of complementary medicine which relies on non-intervention practises and is free from any chemical processes. The idea is to improve your wellbeing by restoring wholeness and harmony. It is a fascinating subject to study and evolved in India some 5,000 years ago. I am a member of the Australasian Association of Ayurveda.
Once I graduated, I set up a practise in Chandigarh where I carried out all sort of therapies. This included Panchakarma, which looks at detoxifying the body to cure ailments such as stress, anxiety and migraines.
I teach natural beauty treatments in the Diploma of Beauty course. This includes Indian head massage, body massage, hot stone massage, aroma massage, threading and reflexology.
I enjoy teaching as I love to see people learn and grow. I can now combine my two passions in life! My students love learning about these alternative holistic therapies and I get such satisfaction seeing them flourish.
I hope my love of complementary therapy, especially Ayurvedic beauty treatments, will be shared by my students so more people in Australia will become aware of this holistic approach to beauty and health.
