I am the head of department for the Health and Community Services Faculty at TrainSmart Australia. My role is extremely satisfying as I am empowering people and encouraging them to improve their lives. There is nothing better than watching someone achieve their career aspirations.
I have quite a broad background in health education and biology, both here in Australia and America. I have a Master’s Degree in Public Health and also a Master’s Degree in Cell Biology, and when I arrived in Australia I completed a Master’s Degree in Education. For five years, I taught at the Australian Institute of Holistic Medicine. My specialist areas were naturopathy, nutritional medicine, and herbal medicine.
I am a board member on the Australian Institute of Higher and Further Education. I started at TrainSmart Australia in 2015, and am now a trainer for those studying the Diploma of Community Services and the Diploma of Mental Health.
Teaching students who are from diverse ethnic backgrounds, where English is not their first language, is incredibly rewarding. I find these type of students very appreciative and highly conscientious.
Many of those studying within our faculty are older and have a thirst for knowledge. They are very keen to learn, which as a trainer, I find both encouraging and rewarding.
In my spare time, I enjoy sewing and cooking, and I volunteer on a project in Western Australia where I teach leadership skills to teenagers. I also run a course teaching human values to children between the ages of 5 and 14.
